Depends on what you mean by cheap. Dallas Mustang has a paxton for about 3k.

There is no cheap supercharger. Make sure to stay away from those electric S/Cs that you see on E-bay. They are a rip off and as for quality a POS. The ads look convincing, don't fall for them.

My stepson had to have one. Well, he went through 2 of them in 4 months. The motors burned up and they didn't make a difference in power.

One thing that you better consider is if your engine is strong enough to handle the stress that an S/C puts on it. You'll be picking up pieces of engine from the street, if it's got a stock bottom end.

Its a 289, would that engine be strong enough to handle the power?

Hello. There was a Paxton supercharger option available on the 65/66 cars, and Paxton still makes a supercharger for that motor. I think that they go for something in the $2500 range, but I could be wrong about that. I haven't priced one in a while. I used to have a paxton-equipped K code, and it was lots of fun. The only thing that you would need to do that isn't something most people would think of would be that you would want to replace the head gaskets before you install the supercharger. The extra pressure would cause a marginal head gasket to go ahead and fail on you. Hope that helps.

The cheapest way to get decent power with a small block Ford is to swap the top end. But you'll also need to make sure that your engine can take power as is. It'll need to be rebuilt and more than likely, machined. I'd go with aftermarket heads so you don't have to worry about machining your old heads. Maybe some flat-top pistons, ARP connecting rod bolts, etc. By the time you've installed the supercharger, you'll need a new block because the old Windsor blocks can't take much over 500 hp. At that point, you might as well just stick with your current motor and start building up another one to take its place.

The current paxton supercharger for carbureted engines runs around 2800 bucks for the satin version and a bit more for the polished version. it is designed for a stock 289. that does not mean that what the others say about building up the bottom end and especially the head-gaskets are not a good idea.
(ask me how I know ) it is a very easy to install kit, well designed and I have had it on my car for about 5 years now with no problems except a blown head gasket. good luck.

btw you will get between 30 to 70 percent increase in power the more efficient your engine is to begin with the more it will get out of it. this kit only makes about 6 psi of boost in as packaged form so it can be placed on a stock engine without doing to much too it. If you do end up rebuilding the car a lower compression ratio and forged pistons would be a good idea.
here is a link to their website. http://www.paxtonauto.com/systems_1001839.html

huh. I was just reading that web site I posted, and it says that the battery needs to be relocated on passenger side applications... who knew? I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss. my battery is a pain in the butt to replace but it is still in the stock location.

and this is the website to buy from not from paxton.

hey mccance did you rebuild your engine? i forgot to say they i dont have stock heads. Having different heads does that help the chance that putting the supercharger the engine would handle it

I had rebuilt the engine a couple of years before I put the supercharger on it. and if your engine has a lot of miles on it, it is a very good idea to rebuild it. aftermarket heads per-se do not improve an engines ability to "handle" a supercharger. having said that aluminum heads allow a little higher compression without detonation which is what kills supercharged engines so aftermarket aluminum heads would make your engine handle a supercharger better. but it won't fix a worn out short block.
