Question Whats it worth?Deal or no deal?1967 ragtop

Have a chance to pick up a 67 Mustang convertible from N.C. The only rust was in the front floors which were replaced by new ones welded in.
Supposed to be a recently rebuilt 289 Hipo.New top,recent paint,new interior(Seat covers,carpet etc.Are these getting rare?
Price is between 9 & 10 K. Whatchathink?

Sorry no pix yet.

For a 8 cyl convert with many new parts the price seems fair/adverage. It's not a steal but you're not getting taken either.

I would still want to know the condition of the underside, cowl and a few other common problem areas before deciding though.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

If it is a "K' code VIN and there is a real numbers matching hipo engine in it, it is probably worth it. Beware, there are a lot of fake hipos out there. I have seen more 225 horse motors with hipo air cleaners at car shows than real hipos.

I wouldn't say '67 convertibles are rare, as compared to Shelbys and other limited edition '67 Mustangs, but the price sounds good to me if it was originally a V8 car.

In '67, Ford made 44,000+ Convertibles, 71,000+ Fastbacks and 350,000+ Coupes.

'67 Convertibles are certainly worth more than a similarly optioned '67 Coupe.

For the car to be an original 289 HiPo car, the 5th digit of the VIN would have to be a K. A HiPo 289 is a solid lifter, performance version of the standard 289. It sounds different than a standard hydraulic lifter 289. This is also known as a "K Code" engine. Having the K engine would make your $9K deal, a steal!

What's the VIN? What options does it have?

Make sure you look around the rockers, torque boxes, frame rails etc. We've heard about a lot of quicky fix-ups to hide rust damage, that turned into expensive repairs for the new owners.

that stinks you travel all that way for someone not to be honest about what they are selling. but that is usually what ends up happening 50% of the time. hope you find another but this time a honest person to deal with good luck

I agree with YTonka.....I really doubt I would buy any car off ebay sight unseen??? ....here are my favorite seller comments.

I was told
I'm selling for a friend
They told me
As far as I know
Haven't run it in years, but it worked last time
Ran the last time I tried to start it 10 years ago.
I do not know much about the history of this car nor do I know much about cars. the Engines only has about 5,000 - 7,000 miles on it from my understanding
According to the previous owner, it has a numbers matching 302 V-8 eng. and a C-4 automatic trans. The motor has roller rockers, forged pistons, 202/160 valves, a small cam, a holley 4brl carb., aluminum intake, dual exhaust, and the heads have been shaved. I'm not real sure what all that means, but I do know it runs strong and shifts well.
Not sure if the a/c works, we haven't tested it
OH and a FAVORITE of mine:
"All it needs is the A/C charged" (well if that's all it needs then do it before I pick it up and show me the ticket where it PASSED)
"selling for a friend"

Yep I collect these

Glad to hear you checked it out personally.
