I have a quick question though and I haven't quite figured out the forums yet so I guess I'll ask it here. I have the original window sticker and several other documents from the 60's that I'd like to keep, but they're falling apart. I was going to laminate them, but then I thought maybe I should ask if that's the best way to preserve them. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
Old documents CAN be "stabilized" professionally, but its pricey.
If you go by a Michael's art store and ask for some help in the Memory Book section they can set you up. What you need are acid free pages and tape and maybe mounting tabs or tape. Storing them in a cool, dry, dark location inside acide free envelopes is the best way to make sure they survive.
Laminating them will probably damage them further. If you do decide to go with lamination, take it to a high quality picture frame shop and discuss it with them.
Finally, you should scan them now before they degrade further, so that you will have a photographic record.
