Default Engine Paint???

What is a good paint to use on engine parts?

Should I got to the auto parts store and get the "Ford Blue" high heat spray paint?

Please point me in the right direction, Thanks!

Brand-wise, I'd go with Krylon or Eastwood paint.

I used Dupli-colour. I forget which blue I used but it looked like the correct dark blue that my engine was supposed to be.

I haven't actually used it, but I've found a lot of people recommend Duplicolor. Also if you Google it it's easy enough to find the color codes for the paint. I'm not sure which colors you're looking for, but they've got all the standard Ford colors.

Hello. Your stuff should be Corporate Blue. The best for that is Plastikote #224. That stuff is nearly a perfect match, and is by far the closest match in a rattle can. I think that carquest is the only chain store that carries it, but you can also get it from NPD. Hope that helps.

#224 is what I used on my 68. Note: don't use my power steering pump as a color reference, it is completely wrong and I've had it as part of a discussion over at the VMF and one of the reasons NPD pulled it from thier shelves since several of us had problems with it.

My 67 mustang restoration project has finally started and the engine and transmission are now on the floor of the carage.
Now I have couple questions about the engine colors. I know that the correct color for the block would be Duplicolor 1606 but the problem is that here in Europe we don't have Duplicolor rattle cans
So does anyone know the correct PPG paint code for Ford Corporate Blue? It would help a lot if I could just walk in the paint shop and get the correct color by using correct color code.

Does anyone know what is the correct color for 67 power steering pump? PPG color code would help a lot on this issue also.

I will certainly second the recommendation of PlastiKote 224 and, yes, as far as I know its only available locally at CarQuest. It may be the only brand left which does not have a 'recoat time' limitation on re-sprays. If you've ever tried to get a really nice, glossy finish you know you have to sand and re-spray it at least once. With DupliColor, etc., you have to wait up to a week or the next coat will lift the first. %&^*()_+ Their cans used to say something like 3 days but I have had it lift after a week. Enough of that c***. I haven't used anything but PlastiKote for a couple of years now.

Yes, I know, Fords weren't originally all that nice and glossy but its what everyone wants to see.

Question

sorry for late entry. The local Mustang restoration shop is recommending Krylon 1923 for my 1967 engine. I've seen some other posts on other sites that confirm that it is a preferred color similar to Plastikote. I can't find either outside the restoration shop. Does anyone have any experience with Krylon? I wouldn't want to have the issues that are mentioned here with Duplicolor peeling. Thanks and I hope someone will see this!!

Years ago I used Krylon engine paint but no one seems to sell it here now which is why I can't say anything about it. Most everyone now sells Duplicolor which, as you can read above, is NOT on my list.
