Default media blasting a 66?

I have a 66 mustang coupe I have removed all of the interior and plan on taking the engine a trans out to rebuild it. I was wondering how much it would cost to get it media blasted and would it be worth it to get it done. I need to remove all the old paint and it needs a little body work done as is. Also what prep work would have to be done before it went to keep the cost down. I want the paint job at the end to look good and would like to know if the money is worth my time

When I worked at a Mustang restoration shop, we did do a couple that were media blasted. The car needs to be completely taken apart before they blast it. The drawback is that you never completely get the media out of it, no matter how much you try. They always seem to leak media from frame rails, dash, windshield posts, etc.

My 66 fastback is currently in the paint shop. I have it apart, and they are going to use paint stripper.

Default media blasting

Normally the 800.00 to 1000.00 here in south Texas . Is it worth it yes it will save a lot of time and effort on striping the car or sanding . if you are paying some one $50 to 75.00 a hour that goes real fast when sanding. Drawbacks yes the media gets everywhere and is hard to remove completely you will have to strip the car completely
But you will know what you are working with as soon as you get it back from blasting normally the will try to up sell you on etching primer before it leaves the blaster probably a good idea unless you are going to take it and prime it asap good luck Andy

Had mine done for $550. After sanding by hand with an orbital for three weeks, it was cheaper and easier than continuing to get sandpaper. Body was almost perfect except a few areas that I was able to fix. Your's might be easier if you don't have as many layers as I did - original primer, what was left of the original paint, primer again, several different colors depending on where you looked (blue, green, red, name it I probably had it), bondo bucket in the back falling off in chunks, and this really runny looking stuff that I think was a shoddy primer job on top of all that.

IMO, well worth it to start on a clean slate. If you want a clean restoration like I did, go that far, but like dustysdawg said, you'll continue to find matter. At least you'll know what you're working with.

I had mine done for $800 complete. As far as getting all the media out, I took a blow gun and tapped 1/8" pipe thread then screwed a compression fitting for a piece of 1/4" copper tubing about 36" long, A blow wand if you like.
