Default Orange oxide paint in a spray can

Does anyone know where to get the orange oxide paint in a spray can that is similar or the same as what was sprayed on the bottom of a 68 Ford?

I did a little more research and the paint is actually "red oxide". If you head over to a PPG dealer, tell them you want a few spray cans of DP74LF (that's the paint code) and it'll only cost you about $4 a can.

Yes, Dakine, that's it. But the pics you have are showing a very glossy finish. When the Mustangs were shot with this paint on the assembly line it came out as a satin finish. Where do I get this paint? Do you know? It would be DaKine if you could tell me where to get it.

DP74LF, eh? Sweet! Thank you. I have a body shop supply shop just near my work. I'll pick some up. Thank you very much.

No problem boss. I think the pictures I posted first had an old coat of paint which is why it looks so dull. Check out these pictures instead, this is what it looks like with a fresh coat. The First picture has about 3 coats of the red oxide and the second and third have 1-2 coats. It'll look more orange with 2 thinner coats, if that's what you're after.

Definitely post some pictures after you lay down a few coats on your Mustang

Hello. The DP74LF is an epoxy based primer, so you would want to wear a respirator when you're spraying that stuff, and be very careful not get it on yourself anywhere. I didn't know that they were putting that stuff in rattle cans. Cool. Here are some pictures of a couple of unrestored San Jose cars so you can see what the color is supposed to look like. The lighter-colored areas are because of body-color overspray. The first car is Wimbledon White (65 Shelby ) and the second one is Springtime Yellow.

The drive shaft loop and rear brake ducts give the Shelby away.

Hey auto doug, I never knew they dipped the shells on the line. It's a shame they didn't dip them deep enough to coat the cowl and the under side of the dash.

Hey Veronica, Thank you for the advise, I ALWAYS wear a respirator when handling paint. In fact, I'm about as cautious as anyone can get.

My car is a San Jose car and very nice on the underside except just behind the rear wheels where stuff like dirt and water has worn away the orange oxide paint or Acapulco Blue paint and I was just thinking of cleaning it up a bit. Thanks everyone for the tips.
