Default Weird VIN's body code

Hello!

I tried a few on line decoder for my VIN... All say my Body Code is invalid as it's 2 letters (GA) and not numbers...
Apart from that it's a 73 mustang made in Dearborn with a 351 2V (so it seams one of the previous owner changed the carburator for the 4300D Motorcraft 4V I have now).

So any idea on what the 2 letters GA placed where the body code should be could stand for?

Thanx

Jett

Hello. Are you talking about the 3rd and 4th digits of the vin, or the body code on the data tag?

3rd and 4th digit on VIN, sorry about that! Just on some on line decoders it says "invalid body type"...
And as I'm clueless

Hi again. And now, did you read that vin from the title, or from the car itself?

Hi again!
I red it from the car (behind the windshield), from my pink slip (even if they are grey slip in France ) and also from a metal plate under the hood! Same number 3 times!
And except for the 3rd and 4th, they all match something.

Since every VIN matches it sounds like a factory VIN mistamp, there is no "GA" body code.

There is a GA interior code in 73 though which is the black Mach1 interior. If the car is a fastback and a true Mach then the body code should be "05". A worked stamping the VIN may have screwed up.

This is why you can't get it to work in the Secret Decoder. The Secret Decoder does have another problem too with some real VINs but nothing that would affect your car or 99+ % of others either.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

OK, being a Grande the VIN code should be "04" then.

I could see how someone not paying attention could have confused the 04 for a GA and mixed them up.

I think they retyped the VIN on new plates when the car was importated to France as it's in french even tho the car is not originaly from europe, maybe the old one was a bit worn out and the dude mistook 04 with GA... It's a reasonnable solution to my little mystery!!!!!
Thanx!
