Default 1967 Mustang 289 V8 - I give up

I can't stand it. My Mustang is very sentimental to me...it was my Mom's. She's gone now & I have so many things from her other than the Mustang. But the Mustang is special. She got it and learned to drive just to take me to school. So far I've spent thousands on it. I just can't afford to keep it running. The last time it died on me just a few blocks from home. I can't even rely on it running long enough to take to another mechanic for a new point of view. Very sad. Considering selling. I feel like a traitor -- giving up on her. She really is a pleasure to drive when she's running well. Was my daily drive for over a year. I don't expect any replies to this. I just had to have a little cry with others who love their Mustangs. Thanks.

Smile i can relate

yeah i have an 84 5.0 was my grandfathers... it nickle and dimes me too but i can't bare to part with him (the mustang, its a boy) hes like a good friend, had some fun nights being mischievous. but if your lucky maybe a friend of yours or even a family member can buy her from you and later on you buy it back, it would be the best way other than parking it, and getting a spare motor/tranny unless your issues go beyond that

My parents helped me with mine, and it's sentimental to me because of that. Can you imagine two people in their 70s acting like excited kids putting an engine in a car?

My daughter borrowed it for one summer and it came back in bad shape. I let it rest in the garage until I collected all the parts I needed and got her up and running again. It's now my daily driver, and another coupe is in the garage in little pieces.

Something I'd suggest is to join a local Mustang club. It's a fun way to socialize, meet people, and get hands on advice for your Mustang.

We had a similar problem with my wifes 68 ragtop. I started rebuilding it, then broke my back lifting the transmission off the floor jack. Now, after back surgery, 10 years have passed and we are thinking about working on it again. I cant do it, I have to pay someone else. That just grates my nerves but is a fact of life for me now. I wouldnt sell it if I were you. Park it, archive it, cover it with a proper cover in a garage and let it sit till you're ready for it again. You'll hate yourself if you sell it.

Sometimes a car is like a family member. The same way she loved you she probably loved that car. The same way you have to make your kids feel better go same for your car. Maybe you should just put a money to the a little each month to fix her and make her part of the family again.

Default Hey thanks everyone

Your kind, wise words are appreciated. You guys are right-- I can't sell her. I'll just shiny her up and cover her until we can play again someday.

I did visit a local Mustang group a couple times, but the vibe was weird. Wild, screaming children running around. Didn't seem to bother anyone else. Not my cup of tea.
Thanks again.

Don't do it, don't sell her, everyone is right, you "will" regret it!!" I have a nice '65 coupe which, like they all tend to do , nickel you to death, but that's their way of wanting attention! I can't wait to get all dirty and grimey again with my Lil Sally...I'm in Iraq, so Lil Sally is under cover, so she misses me too!

Nina, Jaded has the best advise for you. Join a Mustang Club and learn how to care to your Pony yourself. That's how I learned about my car and how to take care of it. If you sell it, you will regret it 'til the day you die.

I know there have got to be plenty of California mustang lovers that read these. Maybe you could put up a post and one of them might have time to take a look and help you out. Or get tips from the Tech lounge. Worst case scenario, you throw a bedsheet over and put itup on blocks till the ressurection day! But if it means that much, don't sell.

Don't sell it...you'll regret it......
I almost sold my 66 Gt Coupe a couple of years ago( my Dad helped me restore it many years ago...now he's gone..)
My two teenage boys wouldn't let me sell it as they grew up with the Mustang...In fact we just purchased a 65 Fastback to restore together...best of luck in what ever you decide....

This is acually my first reply since joining!

These cars are so simple that it's hard to beleive that you are having so much trouble keeping it running. If you do not have the aptitude to do the tuning yourself, have a pertronix electronic kit put in your distributor and a new coil and wires. Make sure you use a fuel stablizer and have clean filters. There just isn't much else to make the thing stop running.

Keep it if you can, you will be sorry if you sell it and see it running around town!

When you do decide to join a group. Make sure that its one that you feel comfortable with. And alot of the members in the groups will actually give you the parts and help you fix here up including giving you price breaks when it comes to painting it.
