Default 9" rear cleaning

ok so i bought a 9" rear for $50.00 now what i want to know is to help save me some money before taking it to a shop, would it be a good idea to sand blast and cut off the old brackets? like make it a completely smooth axle? or do they need those old brakets for placement/measurement? sounds dumb but this will be the first time i attempt messing with a rear end. just exp. with the faces too

If you don't know what you're doing, then don't mess around with the rear end. Pay a shop to set it up because differential work is not for amateurs as you can screw it up pretty easily.
