Default Discrepancy Paint code "J"

Here I am again with a question!

1965 "K" code, door tag says "Paint" J which translates to Rangoon Red. The car now is a 66 Bronze color that was not even available in 65. The problem I have is that everywhere I look and find the original color I find a very orange color like Poppy Red. I look on Google and type in 1965 Rangoon red and I find several cars that actually look like poppy red with the paint code "J". Was there a mix up in 1965 with the "J" Paint code???

J is the correct code for rangoon red. the PPG # is 71243. the poppy red is code 3 and it is a lot more "orange".

No doubt, this is the trouble I am having. The code says Rangoon which is a Blood Red, Dark, (Not true Red) and everywhere I look I find the Poppy Red color.

For instance, this car was advertized as Rangoon red code "J".

This color is "NOT" Rangoon Red!

Now, this is!

Now this is Poppy Red and the color I am finding everywhere!

Color can depend its age how the picture was taken even paint companies the color can be off.Your car is old it could have been fully repainted/restored before.

Exactly. I have hundreds of pictures of my old '70 that was done in Calypso Coral, and some pics look red others look orange. It is hard to tell from a Random pic what exactly the color was/is.

To the original poster: I have a '65 convertible painted in Rangoon Red. It looks suprisingly similar to the fastback that you say "isn't" Rangoon Red.

Now, the second link you posted of the convertible, to me, it looks way too dark. Rangoon Red is a funny color; it looks one way in the sunlight (which that '65 fastback is in), then looks another on a cloudy day (as is the case with the convertible in the second picture).

Thanks for all the reply's!

I agree, there is a huge difference in lighting as to what it looks like in a picture, The "FACT" remains, that the color I am finding everywhere I look is deffinately Poppy Red! It is Orange. Orange, Orange!

find a PPG dealer in your area and give this # 71243. they can mix you a couple of ounces. this is the correct code/color,i have mixed it hundreds of times! been a PPG distributor since 1972!
