Default 1965 Mustang under seat hanger mounts!

When the fellow I work for bought this 1965 "K" code Mustang I did a little research before I went to pick up the car, The general concensus was that one of the things that people did, (Or forgot to do) was in trying to make a regular mustang into something that it was not was the little hanger brackets under the rear seat would be missing! When I got there and started looking at the car, after looking at all the #'s and found them to be a match to a real "K" code car I asked if I could take out the rear seat. When I looked under the seat there were no brackets, only self tapping bolts through the floor. "RED FLAG"!!! Then I looked at the rear of the car and found that the welded in supports at the rear of the frame rails were in fact there! ???

Were there any documented cases of "K" code cars found that did not have the brackets under the seats??? Ran out that day, forgot them????????

Veronica may have some more details of this one but I'll give you my interpretation.

The under-back-seat detail to look for isn't so much a bracket, but a second layer of metal added as reinforcement around where the hanger passes through the floor. Those small hangers are only about 1 x 2 1/2" and hold two studs through the floor which then attach the exhaust brackets to the bottom side of the floor. Its not a terribly big panel but its shaped up around the corner and it makes the floor strong enough to hang the exhaust. It also isn't a K-code detail, its one for any car which had dual exhausts. The reinforcement could be there and someone just didn't use the correct hanger hardware with the last exhaust system.

I also am not sure about the 'welded' part you mention at the rear. The dual exhaust cars had an inner reinforcement in the 'frame rail' that kept the bolts from flattening the 'rail' when the brackets were bolted on. Unless you know what to look for its not easy to see and its something you feel inside the rail rather than see it. The rear exhaust brackets themselves were bolted to the car with bolts through the 'rail' at that point. Again, its a dual exhaust thing, not K related except that K cars had dual exhaust.

Yes, that is what I was talking about, the car has those!

These are what I was referring to. I do not see any reinforcements to the floor though!

These are the peices I was reffering to. I do not see any floor reinforcements though!

Since my project of the day failed miserably I'll show what I have.

From your pictures I can't be certain but the panel may be there. I think I see the top edge of it just above the hanger. Its about 5" tall and 13" wide and includes not only the exhaust hanger but the seat belt anchorage if it has those which yours doesn't. The bottom edge is hidden in glop used to seal the seam. The threaded fasteners sticking up in the lower right are the emergency brake cable. This is a convertible but this detail shouldn't be a lot different.

Its not K related, its dual exhaust. This is a GT.
