I am currently rebuilding a 1968 Mustang Convertible for my step dad. His only two requests were that it remain red and that it has a proper stereo put in. I am one to keep the car looking as original as possible so are there any radios and CD changer combination that provide good audio and keep the stock look? Also are there any reproduction interior body panels that will house a speaker secretly so that I have multiple speakers but keep the classic look?

Check NPD or California Mustang Supply for stereo options. There are several manufacturers that have varying levels of "authentic" or "period" looking units with hidden changers. As for the body panels, they make kick panels with built in speakers. I also think they make inteior quarter trim panels for convertibles with the same but not sure. Again, check with the major aftermarket companies.
I just put in a custom auto sound system in my 1967 coupe and it works quite well. They have a few systems with iPod hookups and the kick panel speakers work reasonably well. They look original and I think you can upgrade it to have more power. The kick panels have 75 W speakers in them.
Yeah get a din sized bezel and use a newer radio.Pretty much every old looking modern radio they make is over priced and sounds like crap.I'd even run new wires to the radio keep your old bezel and radio in case you want to put them back later.Yeah they sell kick panels with pods in them.
I'll contact my friends looking after my car and see if they'll snap some photos for you but I was in the same delima on the stereo and here's my setup.
1967 Coupe with an original looking stereo that isn't even wired in (I might give it power just for fun later on). The real stereo is a new system that is setup as a hideaway. The mounting plate was cut to fit in my glovebox and all the wires ran behind it. Even has an iPod connector. You'd never know there was anything different until I lower it and I hid a remote control on the ash tray. it's hard to see but easy to grab and is the only non-stock item of my dash. Even that can be removed.

I have had my custom autosound radio for almost 2 years now, and I think its great. Yes they are slightly pricey, but it is worth it. The quality is nice, the sound is nice, and I have the optional iPod input and the optional 10 cd changer which hides very nicely in my trunk. But seeing as how it is a 68, I would just go with a bezel change.
I had a ridiculous stereo in my 68 coupe. I had the local car audio store fabricate kick panels, a back dash, and a DIN sized insert for the stereo. This was before all this stuff could be found aftermarket.
I would go with getting an insert for your dash so you can get the stereo that you want, not the one that will fit. And go ahead and have all new wiring run for everything you have installed. They make after market kick panels and rear dash inserts with speaker holes in them. Try Natl Parts Depot, California Mustang or Mustangs Unlimited.
