Default 1968 coupe vin locations

i recently got a 1968 coupe and according to the vin it says that the engine code is (C) which is 289 but the factory emblems (if they are factory) are 302 pony emblems. By research i found that ford started installing the 302 mid year 1968, is there any way by my vin that i can check to confirm that this engine has been changed. Also are there any other vin locations on the car that i can check. I am still going to pull starter and get the date code off engine and hopefully it will be C8.

Thanks for all the help in advance

There is a VIN located in the engine bay on one of the panels on the driver side fron quarter, then thers the door tag also..check to see that they match.

Also, this is kind of more involved, but if you take off the intake manifold, it will be stamped on the engine block underneath the manifold wether its 289 or 302...I have an early 68 with the 289.

A VIN with a number like that would have been built around November, not knowing what plant yours was built at.

In 68 they started stamping partial or full VINs on the engine blocks. It will be found on top of the block between the rear of the intake and where the bell housing bolts up. You may have to clean the block really well back there to see.

OK, your car's scheduled build date would be Nov 30, or Dec 1. The door tag would have a code of "30L" or "1M"

I have VIN 8T01C118844 with "30L" and VIN 8T01T119651 with "1M", your car fell on one of these two days.
