Default Edelbrock Performer Carb

I have a '66 with a 289 equipped with an Edelbrock Perfomer. For the life of me, I can't get the carb's fuel/air set correctly. Does anyone know the "secret" to getting this thing set. I have adjusted the fuel and air as little as 1/8 turns at a time with no success. Would I be better off throwing it the trash and getting a Holley?

Thanks for any advise offered!

I like the Edelbrocks, they have been good for me.Sounds like maybe the carb is just dirty.I suggest a good disasemble and clean.

These are far easier to work on than holleys.
Try lightly seating the idle mixture screws and then turn them out 2 1/2 turns each, now use a hand held tach and adust 1/4 turn at a time untill you get the highest RPM . Check out the attachment for more help.
