I am new to the forum and have an idea for a project I would like to try. I'm sure it has been done before by someone.
Since the older fastbacks were produced in such minimal numbers, there aren't many around and available today. Why not take a coupe and convert it into a fastback. I see that you can buy a new fastback roof skin. I am mostly interested in a 1966 or 1967, and I like challenging projects. I just finished building a gyroplane and am starting to fly it, so I need another challenging shop project to keep me busy.
Does anyone have any experience with this, or know someone who has done it.
The car would be a "mutt" and have no additional value beyond the original coupe. They fall into the "sectioned car" catorgory, not restomod.
There are many topics covering doing a coupe to fastback conversion on here. You NEED a fastback donor no matter what. Yes, you can buy the roof skin.......but that is only the skin, you need all the inner structure too and that's not offered for sale in repro form.
Dynacorn has repro'd all the parts it takes to build a fastback but they will not sell the inner structure and some other fastback specific parts separately otherwise others could weld up complete new fastback shells and go around Dynacorn. It would defeat thier purpose on being the only ones to offer complete new shells and the only one authorised by Ford to do so.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project
Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
bottom line if your restoring the car to sell it, dont do it. if you are restoring it for yourself do it the way you want it not the way anyone else wants.

Yeah but making a coupe into a fastback cost more then buying a fastback.Unless you can do the work,But if you have to ask how hard it is your not skilled enough to do this.I have done body work for 5 years and i wouldn't want to do this its a pain since its a unibody car.Its a huge job and very easy to mess it up bad.
Thanks for that link. I had no idea anyone was selling the structual parts for the conversion. In the past there were people looking for the inner parts, no problem finding the exterior sheet metal.

We are currently redoing our web page and should be updated with in the next few weeks.
As for andrewmp6 saying we don't show our welds and he thinks it may be a hack job? I will gladly show you any high res picture of any of our work. Or you can just wait to see it in the magazine.
As for the champion conversion kit. Its missing all of the inside brackets for fastback interior panels. All of our shells are 100% ready for all factory fastback interior panels including the fold down rear seat.
And yes our shells come with a coupe vin number. would you rather have NO vin number at all?
