Default pumping gas in a 1967 mustang

Anyone else have difficulty pumping gas into a '67 Coupe??? 'cause of the way it's built i can't get the pump in a position where the gas won't spill out when i pump; or i get lucky after tweeking with it for a while and find a temporary position where it'll let me pump, but most of the time im not so lucky.

Anyone have a way of fixing this annoying problem??

I have the same problem on my 68 convertible I always have to hold it so that the rubber seal is perfectly around the hole so it doesnt spill.

Ya, I always have the same problem with my 67. It's that sharp bend in the filler tube. My best success is to start the flow slowly and build up to maximum fill flow. I also don't stand right behind it while fueling.

I keep a couple of junker towels handy and do my best to clean the panel, bumper, license plate and ground. Agreed. Pain in the ass!

The solution to this problem may very well hold the answers to all that is unexplained.

You ave to remember, pumps today are pushing out gas at a much higher velocity then pumps of old. I just run it in slow and the rubber boot tight.

Was there a difference between the 66 and 67 filler? I have never had the problem with gas spilling out except for once. Right after I got my car back from the shop, I went to fill the tank to the 16 gallon max, well at 10 gallons it started to spill out. I found out that they put the 12 gallon tank from a different car maker in. I still need to get a proper 16 gallon tank for it.

This is all I have found that works. I also have found that some pumps have the joint on the hose that allows you to turn the nozzle different directions. These pumps work better for me that the ones that dont allow much nozzle movement.
