Default 1967 Ford Mustang; Is it worth this?

I'll start by saying I'm a complete novice about everything concerning not only classic cars but cars in general. But I, like most people, have been dying to get a 65-69 Mustang since I can remember. This dream may become a reality if I'm patient, learn a little bit and dont get taken advantage of due to my lack of knowledge. So, please, give me lots of feedback on my question! I'm going to "look" at my first potential car, its a 1967 Mustang Convertible, in Georgia. The guy is asking 11K for it and I need to know if thats too high. This is what I know: he has the original title, its an automatic, he has replaced the floor, it has new panels, a new exhaust, a new motor (302 with 5,000 miles on it), a new top. He said everything in the car is original except for the work that he has done and has a record of: so its got the original radio, rims, gear shift, etc. He said it could use a new paint job, theres a few spots of rust, and it has a few dings. He claims he has put 17k in the car and cant spend anymore $$. So, I'm going to look at it tomorrow--is he asking too much? What other questions should I have for him when I go? Please don't me annoyed with my lack of knowledge-- you've got to start somewhere! Thank you all in advance!

If the floors have rusted out I would suspect the cowl is also leaking. Ask him if you can put some newspaper on the floor board that is under the dash on both sides and slowly pour in some water from a bucket or a hose. Check to see if there are drips on the paper. Cowls are not fun to replace or repair but can be done.
Worth it? Depends on how much money you are going to invest AFTER the purchase. Check for rust under the car too. Be honest with yourself on how much time you have to invest along with the money if the car does need more work.
Too many ponies end up on blocks after the motivation slows down until a new owner can be found....
But having an cool classic that turns heads is worth the effort
Good luck and good shopping!

Also check the trunk and pay close attention to the rust that is there. Is any of the weather stripping damaged or missing? Could cause a lot more problems.
Awesome idea about the paper and water 66, hadn't heard that one.

I would like to see some photos of the car first before rendering an opinion of value.

Little Mule, I see you're down in Pensacola not far from where that Indiana investment adviser crashed his plane after bailing out and putting it on auto pilot.

Nope, not far at all. And because of my last job, I know the area pretty well that he bailed out in and crashed. But for now I'm in Iraq...

Good call on wanting to see the pictures first.
Melanierc - can you put up some for us?

Thanks so far for the answers/tips/suggestions. I have no pictures but I may post some after I go look at the car. So basically, paying 11K for a car in good condition like that isnt necessarily too much?

I would think that if it's not going to break the bank (gotta consider the economy) and it's in good enough condition, then why not!
