I found the following car at a local shop. The owner, who moved out of town, lost his job and needs to sell.
$16K for the car
$5K to complete the restoration
Rebuilt 289, by a local performance shop
4-speed Toploader
all new steering/suspension
New brakes w/ front disc
subframe connectors
new wiring
new upholstery
new gas tank/lines
etc
etc
Color would not be my first choice, but he'll repaint for $2K
Just goes to show, it pays to ask the right question, at the right time...
I was at a local mustang shop to see what it would cost to have them finish my '64.5 coupe (also known as the 12 year and counting project...). As I was looking at all the fastbacks he was restoring, I asked where you could find one today? He took me out back and showed me this one; about 80% into a complete restoration, and the owners couldn't finish it.
i'd leave the color
it's definately something rare and it's definately an attention grabber
the more you look at it the more it grows on you like she said.
Most people when it comes to restoring a car or any home improvements always under budget them self's run out of money fast.Only thing i would change on that car is maybe do the Shelby windows on the sides.
Within minutes of each other, two tornados hit town a few weeks ago. One of these passed directly over the mustang restoration shop working on my new '66 2+2.
Amazingly, though my car was in an outside bay, and the storm passed with 50 meters of that side of the building, it received no damage; while many of the other cars received some damage, and the wall on the opposite side of the building was blown out.
Of course the truly amazing thing is, though numerous houses were damaged or destroyed, no one was seriously hurt.
