Default removing cancel cam

I am trying to remove the cancel cam on my 70 Mach One, do I need to unplug the harness at the base of the steering column to pull slack on the wires to get over the top of the splined steering shaft to be able to remove and repair the cancel cam?

Yes, plug at the bottom after you have removed the steering wheel. Remove 3 screws holding down the turn signal cam and the 1 screw holding down the ground wire.
