When I parked my car in the garage 12 years ago, it had brand new tires. Flash forward to now, it has been sitting on 4 jacks, all these years in a protected garage. I don't see any wear or tear of any kind. Do you think it would be safe to still use these tires?

I wouldn't - rubber dries and rots whether it being used or not. They may look fine on the outside but could peel apart with a little weight and use after 12 years. Better off getting a new set and being safe.

Hello. No, I do not. That would be begging for a car crash. A lot of people don't really appreciate what it is like to have more than one tire blow out on them at basically the same time. It isn't much fun at all. Buy some tires.

I read somewhere that a lot of retailers are selling old tires and the average consumer can't tell the difference between new and old rubber. They are not date stamped. I could go to Wal-Mart for a new set of tires and possibly end up with a set made 5 to 6 years ago.

Clarification. Tires are in fact coded showing at least the month and year the tire was manufactured.

what performance wheels and/or tires are you all using. my 66 289 is on stock sized whitewalls. too thin now that i know better. i am just trying to get some suggestions about a particular brand or size that are good for street handling

I'm running 215/60's on our stock 14" wheels. We'll be upgrading to 15" when we finish our resto. I haven't decided what size to go with yet.
