Default Swapping a 200 cid to a 289 cid in a 1965 Mustang

Woo!! first post! =]
I am trying to find out what I would need to change out if I was to convert my 200 cid Mustang to a 289 cid. I do plan on changing out the old suspension, considering the 289 is a heavier engine. The main question I have about this is the differential. Would i need to buy a whole new rear end? or would i just have to beef up the original one somehow?

Cheapest way is to sell your car and buy a v8 one to start with.Give this a read Six Cylinder Upgrade V8 - Mustang & Fords Magazine and yes you have to change the rear end you have a 7.5 now which won't take the power and there is aftermarket for them i know of.You need a 8 inch rear end at least.

Generally speaking, as stated here, it would be cheaper to just find a V8 car to start with.

If you can do the work yourself and have access to the parts it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Define your goals and how much money and time you have and go from there.

You might also consider beefing up the sixxer. Mustang Monthly just had a good article on options for doing just that.

As stated above the cheapest thing to do would be to sell the L6 and start with a V8 car. But why sell the 6 . Take a look over at fordsix.com. There are a lot of things that can be done to the six performance wise that a lot of people don't consider just because its a L6.
