well just checking in after a while. i recently sold one of my 67 fastbacks. the guy who purchased it was from california and chose to ship it on a open carrier. what a horrible experience. the car was inoperable but otherwise completely finished the engine just needed hooked up. the guy who picked it up had no clue as to what he was doing and even wanted to bind it down by the sway bars. and to make a long story short i knew something bad was gonna happen and it did. when the car was delivered the backend was smashed there was a large dent in the roof and numerous other damage. hte car was the very front car on the trailer right behind the drive tires of the tractor standing up and down with the sheetmetal facing the tires and collecting all the road debris what a mess.now i have to deal with the insurance of the carrier to prove there was no damage before it was shipped even though i have a paper saying there was no damage signed by me and the carrier. what a pain never. NEVER AGAIN. anyone else have any horror stories

That is why I always take various photos of the car before and after it was placed onto the carrier.

i do have over 100 pics of the car getting loaded and on the carrier and of the driver under the car tieing it down. i forwarded them all to the insurance company and i was told by the agent i am in the clear thanks to the pics and the pick up slip signed off as no damage by the driver. but the buyer told me today he is now going to have to take the shipper to small claims court. and get this how do you cave a oil pan right up to the crank while you are shhipping a car between pick up and delivery thats one of the numerous problems alleged. but at least i am off the hook. 2 lessons learned take lots of pics and use a enclosed carrier. and dont use express auto shipppers. i ll update as i get more info.

well just an update the purchaser of the car has now hired a lawyer to go against the shipping company. somehow there ended being a ridiculous amount of damage on the car appearing to be from road debris and the shipper said they dont cover road debris damage as that is a act of god. and now god has apparently caused about 5,000 dollars in body damage from drive tires on the truck not having mud flaps and all the stones and such flying off of them and hitting the car. so when i hear more i will update.

That's why you always ship in a enclosed trailer and use a good company.I'm cheap i rather drive my truck with a trailer this why it get damaged its my own fault.Good luck with it.
