Question stock suspension vs performance suspension

can someone tell me what the difference in upgrading to a performance front suspension with a negative camber as opposed to just installing a 1" drop coil and using the stock upper and lower control arms. Im just building a daily driver.

thanks

Well, to tell you the truth, what I did with my Pony was to install all new upper and lower control arms, shock absorbers, coil springs, 1" front stabilizer bar with urethane bushings and shock tower insulators from Mustangs Plus (Grab-a-Track suspension) and the ride feels great!

Compared to a stock suspension, it would probably feel a little stiffer but you will have a much better "road feel" when cornering. My personal experience has been awsome with those guys.

Totally recommend them.

What year is your car?The best things to start with are the Shelby drop 64-70 only roller spring perches export brace monte carlo bar all that will make it handle a lot better.

I've got a 65 fastback. Im the second owner since i got it from the original owner. Just curious on what the best bang for the buck is without breaking the bank.

Pretty much everything i listed will give you a good bang for your buck.Only thing else i can think of is a roller idler arm.

Do some reading at this site, lots of free information and will explain a lot on improving steering/suspension.
DazeCars, Ford Galaxie Mustang tech and restoration
Start with suspension 101, 1" UCA relocation (Shelby or Arning drop called often), roller spring perches, etc.

The UCA 1" drop will put your tires flatter on the ground giving better steering and road holding. The roller spring perches allow the suspension to move freely and adjust quicker to road changes, curves, etc. New UCA/LCA will help if your old ones are original/worn out. If a daily driver I'd follow what's above, new stock components with UCA 1" drop/ roller spring perches/ bracing/ 1" sway bar/ roller idler if manual steering, better gas shocks.

I also replaced my rear leaf springs with 4 1/2 mideyes and it put me level with 1" drop front springs. This made a huge difference on how the front reacted, no more 'pushing' when entering a freeway from an on ramp, used to waddle as the rear would sway and try to change the direction the front tires were pointed.

I would like to add, when you replace a rubber bushing with a steel bearing you multiply the harshness of the ride. I done a Shelby drop and set up camber and caster as the 65 Shelby had. It eats the insides of the front tires...FAST. I would recommend, based on personal experience, a big front swaybar ( 1 1/8 polyurethane links), The Shelby drop ( set up caster/camber as stock), I would not go with the polyurethane strut bushings use rubber. The roller spring perches and such are nice but it's a daily driver not a race car. Use the rubber it isn't as harsh. My two cents . Been there did that.

Is there a big difference in feel from doing the whole shelby drop to just using stock upper and lowers and using a 1" drop coil?

The Shelby drop fixes the uneven tire wear problem most early mustangs are known for.The Shelby drop might lower your car maybe a 1/2 of a inch if that but it does fix a lot of problems tho.I wouldn't lower the car with out the Shelby drop lowering it with out it might make things worse. In 71 ford did lower the upper a arms on the mustang which shows it was a problem.
