Go buy the book " How to Restore Your Mustang". Great in depth book with pictures. Unfortunately I lent mine out and never got it back. Yes, it's that good.

$13.95 according to my last Mustangs Unlimited book. Part # MP09. Phone- 1-888-398-9898 for Conneticut and 1-888-229-2929 for the Georgia store. Looks like they changed the cover since I lost mine. I might buy another. It's a great book.

I am also doing a 66 with my son. It can be a good experience for both you you!
You will need to remove the front and rear windows to do it right.
Unfold and lay the headliner in the sun to warm it up and get the folds out. Be sure you put the wire bows into the right place in the headliner.
We used contact cement to hold it on but it really did not stick real well. Ended up using Gorilla Glue and the old windlace (from from the door area that holds the headliner) to hold it in place while the glue dried.
The headliner kit will come with complete directions. Be sure to stretch it tight and take your time. It is much easier with 2 people!

yeahh we kind of ran into some trouble...we got as far as getting the bows into the slots but the problem is we cannot get the front bow to pull tight and stay unlike the other 3 bows... the problem is our headliner kit came without instruction so we're kind of blind right now as to what to do about it but your idea with the gorilla glue sounds like a good idea...did you glue one section at a time and slowly work your way forward and just tighten it up section by section as you went along?

Yeah to bows are a pain.
I used the windlace material to hold the headliner on the front and back windows before I glued it. Cut the old windlace into 3 inch strips, fold over the headliner and then slide the windlace over it. Work from the center out, doing a 4 inches at a time for both front and back windows. You will have 8 pieces of windlace on front and back windows.
Then do the door openings the same way. Use a hair drier to get out wrinkles. When it is all stretched and tight and no wrinlkes take 1 windlace of at a time, add glue and then slip the windlace back on. I did NOT glue the door openings so I could tighten up the headliner if it starts to sag.
There are a total of 4 headliner bows on 1964-1968 coupes. The bows are originally color coded. If the colors are still on the bows, arrange the red in the 1, 2 and 3 positions. The blue bow goes in the rear. If the colors have worn off, you can tell them apart by the bow style. The front three are the same and the rear bow is different than the others.

Here are all of the bookmarks I saved on my PC on how to do it. It should be everything you need. If not, we are here
