Default Help Needed to Decipher Transmission Tag 1966 Mustang

Could someone please help me fully decipher the transmission tag on a 1966 Mustang with a 289 engine and automatic transmission? The tag appears on the driver's side of the transmission with a large Ford logo above it:

the pee-c is out of a 67 cougar 289, it should have the later shift patern , big G

Wish Veronica were around to help address or explain how this 1967 C4 (PEE C) tranny got into a 1966 Mustang convertible with a build date in late June 1966. Could it be a factory-installed anomaly?

Yes Million you did give me info on the '1967' C4 'PEE C' model tranny put into this Stang. I have been told that there have been instances where 1967 components have been put into late produced 1966 Mustangs. That is why I would be interested in hearing Veronica's input about this. Some strange things happen at factories which are not always explained in books.

I think the highest possibility is there was a faulty original transmission assembled in the car that required another one being send from the plant to the dealership for installation, would be the reason.

The time line is perfect for that scenario.

Million your theory is very plausible. There are just so many things original about this 1966 Mustang convertible, including all the body sheet metal, that it is hard to believe that the C4 tranny was not either originally installed or switched very early on after it left the Dearborn plant and arrived in Indianapolis.

Or, possibly this Mustang failed the track test at Dearborn in late June 1966 because of a defective C4 transmission and sat around for a few months before they slapped a new one in.

Fortunately I located the previous owners of this car who are a couple now in their 70's. I'll be sure to ask them if they rodded the car and blew the original C4 tranny from the factory.

The trans is a November 30th 1966 version

With the build date of June 66 and a 3-5 week delivery period
(I don't know what the DSO is and where the car was built,but that was the usual time period.
If a lot boy was goofing around with the car who knows what was done to it.
If the trans went out over winter time then the time frame is correct.
Without the service records who is to know ?

Are the P/O's the Original owners ?

It would curl your hair to know what we as lot boys did with new cars back then.

Imagine detailing and test driving a 69 GTO in those days

The older couple were the 2nd Owners as evidenced by the records of the BMV. All they told me is that the original Owner lived on Southport Road in south Indianapolis. Don't know who that is or even if he/she is still alive. I am going to try to get more info and track him/her down though. There is no such thing as a 'dead end' until one travels off the cliff.

I hope the 1967 PEE C C4 transmission in the car is a little better than the 1966 C4 model.
