When i painted my car i bought a gallon of primer, a gallon of paint, and then the reducer and thiner i needed for the paint(it should say on the can). I put 3 coats of color and had a little left over. It cost around $200 dollars for everything but i got blue paint and i think red is a little more expensive. Also, i didn't put any clear coat on so i don't know what that would cost.

To do a basecoat/ clearcoat it would cost you about a grand for red with white for stripes. I priced it roughly a year ago. This is PPG materials. Paintin mine this spring.

It may be different, but I went with acrylic lacquer on my '73 coupe. 6qts. of color, 2 gal of reducer. 1/2 gal of primer. $840.00

When you put the last 4 coats of clear on, use a slow drying reducer. It brings out the shine more. Mix it 70/30, the last coat mix 80/20.

find a PPG jobber in your area, and let them look at it. they can get you going. you can spend anywhere from 200.00 to 2000.00 for paint. depends on what you want.
