Default Engine Matching numbers Q??

I have a 289 in a 1967 mustang...would like to know where at on the engine i can look for the numbers too see if it has matching numbers......????

I found mine on block above the starter. get the number then look up a ford engine decoder. the 67 289 was made for a different car but put into a mustang so careful it dont throw you off. hope this helps you out.

Heads/block,intake & exhaust manifolds casting numbers

not only the engineering numbers but very important are the cast DATE stamping number

Like mentioned above, the casting numbers and cast in date code is what you are looking for. The key is that the date code be before the car was built, but not dramatically. Should be no more than about six weeks. Unlike a GM vehicle, you cannot tell if that is the original engine that Ford put in the car, but get to reasonable confidence. Also, swapping heads was somewhat common on those cars back in the day, so you might check the heads and see if they match with the engine code.

It can take months to get a engine cast part assemblde on an engine than an assembled car.

7 - 10 weeks was the normal time frame
