Default Applying interior paint, 1966 Mustang

Hello, My 1966 coupe has many knicks and rubbed off paint on the top of the doors and the dash. What is the best way to apply this paint to these areas? I see that some come in a spray can but is there a kind of paint that isnt? I do not want to have to tape up the whole inside of the car just for some spot touch ups. Thanks in advance

If your talking about the metal parts of the doors and dash just use normal painting steps sand prime paint clear.A cheaper way is sand it good and spray paint the places.

You'll never get the paint to match out of a can or in a bottle - you are better of painting the whole thing as Andrew suggests. If you have the textured doors be careful not to sand too much. The only way to really do the dash correct is to pull all the switches and probably even the glove box door and the instrument bezel. Sounds like a lot of work, but it will be worth it in the end. Trying to paint just the bare patches is going to look just like that.

How wide does the can spray? I read it has to be around a foot or so away with many layers. Dont really want to tape up the whole dang car.

I would remove the pieces to be painted from the car, prep them and spray then reassemble.

Strip the lower half of the dash and from the dash pad up i would mask off with double layers of newspaper.Or you can take the dash pad off but have to mask the windshield off too.

i just painted my entire interior, it is a lot of work but the end result is well worth the effort of removing everything. you could probably do it in a couple of days. here are a couple of pics

No way to remove the dash from the car s you are stuck with using lots of paper and tape to allow spraying. You will want multiple light coats of paint to avoid any drips and runs. That paint is going to get around so cover everything you can. Its a PITA but will be worth it when you are done.

I buy liquid paint & use this system.

Preval Spray Gun - Home

available at most parts houses / bodyshop supply places

It costs more but is more versatile than spray bombs

I use this for vinyl dye work as well.

It would be cheaper just to buy some good spray cans.
