Should be pretty straightforward since your car was originally designed around the 429 engine when they engineered it. Motor mounts will be off the shelf and everything else you should be able to get used or at mustang vendors.

The main problem I am going to have is the shifter arm on the side of the trans. I had a c4 and am changing to a c6. The car is a floor shift, anyone know if the shift arm for a c4 will go into the c6?

I believe the shifter is the same. The linkage is different for the C4 and C6. The kickdown linkage is different for the two transmissions as well. If you can't find the right parts, lokar makes a 1-size-fits-all cable kit.

It is a real easy job to change it to a 429 or 460. You will have to change out the engine saddle mounts. That's the motor mounts that are bolted to the crossmember. A larger radiator would probably be a good idea. Be sure you get all the accessory drive bracketts from the doner car as the ones from you small block will not fit the big block. As for the shifter on the C-6, that is a no brainer too. It is a floor shift, fab the linkage if you have to. You will also have to cut your drive shaft down a little shorter. You will need the bigger drive shaft yoke that is used in the C-6, the C-4 will not fit. You will probably have to change the transmission crossmenber. You will run into a few glitches as I mentioned and probably a few I didn't mention, but the swap is well worth the effort.

Question? What engine does the car have now? If the car has a 351C you probably do not have a C4 in it. More than likely it is a FMX. If it is an FMX you can use the driveshaft yoke from it. They are the same as the C6 yokes.

its not the linkage im concerned about, its the shift lever on the side of the c4. if I can put it on the new c6, it will make everything else alot easier. It originally had a 351c with a c4. Now, A 1968 429 closed chamber high compression heads, full roller rockers, edelbrock performer package, factory SCJ exhaust manifolds etc. im guessing 450 hp, 500 ft pounds

The shifter arm from the C4 will not fit the C6. However the C6 will probably have some type shifter arm on it. If it don't get one off a C6 that does. The C6 is still easy to find in the junk yards. BTW I made the same swap from a small block to a big in a 73 about twenty five years ago all by my lonesome and it was not a hard job at all. I am a woman, if I can do it, you shouldn't have a bit of trouble.

Back in the day, circa 74 I bought a nice 71 429 SCJ car. Hung on to it for a few years and traded it for a new Ford pick up. As with most muscle cars I started having regrets about selling the car a few years later. Along about 85 I had a cousin with a 73 fast back, powered by a small block. The engine was locked up and the car needed paint, other than that it was a straight rust free car. I bought the car for 500 dollars and removed the engine and installed a 429. The engine came from a machine shop, the engine owner got into some financial troubles and couldn't pay for the machine work. The 429 had been bored to 4.44, stroked with a 460 steel crank, had six cylinder Ford industrial rods with custom forged pistons. If I am remembering correctly it came to 528 Cubic inches. Needless to say it was a real torquer. That engine along with a tricked out C6 went into the car. Along with the things I mentioned above I rebuilt the from suspension of the car and installed heavier springs. It was an easy installation with all off the shelf parts. You don't have to fabricate anything if you don't want to. I have included a few pictures for you.

How did you hook up the c6 to the floor shift rod.
