Default I might get this 1967 Mustang want do you guys think for 700 obo need top replaced

Here is the email:

The car is complete but has rust issues. It is a great parts car. The doors close great and all windows are in tact. The dash is bad but all instruments are there. No AC.

The hubcaps are in the box.

The car has two 289 motors that are pulled out to repair/rebuild. You can make one good one out of the two. One manual 4 spd trans and one automatic trans.

The floor pan has no rust and appears to be in good shape. The hub caps are in the back.

The car has been sitting for 20 years and is not in the Cal DMV system any longer. No paperwork.

Make me an offer. I am located in Chino Hills (71/60 fwy)

Also how can I replace the top with a hardtop I probably can get a welder, do I just a hardtop top and weld it? your help would be great!

I am surprised the roof is in such sorry shape since the rest of the body appears relatively solid. Was the car sitting upside down in a field for 20 years or did the vinyl top trap all that moisture to cause heavy corrosion?

The roof is pretty rough but the parts alone are worth the money 2 289s and a 4 speed. If you can get the car cheap and sell one of the blocks you will have some extra money for repairs. I would find out how hard it will be to fix that roof and if it is fixable without spending a fortune I say go for it.

You could always buy a fastback conversion kit for it or make a "ronster" out of it.

500 or less its a huge job to replace the roof being a unibody its even easier to mess it up bad.Only good i can see the car is parts or maybe doing a fastback out of it.

With the shape the roof is in you are into a roof swap. As most people have written converting it into a fastback is the best way to go much better return on your investment. If you decide to sell it you'll get more than if it was a coupe. I've even seen some people do the roof swap without restoring anything else and then selling it on ebay for $5k+.
As far as the price of $700.00 obo for all that it's not bad. Also run a car fax on the VIN to see if it is a stolen car or something before you buy

If you've got the space, time and money, then get it. It's a good start for what it's worth. OBO means you won't spend $700. You'll probably get it for way less than that. If anything, chop the top off and make it an open top roadster Ratrod that baby. Look at that hood! Sweeeeet!

IrishKing,
It's a common problem with neglected vynil top cars. Vynil cracks, then water and moister gets in and viola, rusty top. Ever see headers with heat wraps fall apart? Same problem with header wraps.
