1966 Exterior color and interior trim availability chart

Hi all! Ok, I have purchased a copy of How to Restore your Mustang. In it, there is a chart that shows Mustang exterior color and interior trim availability. Along the top of the chart are Exterior colors and code, and along the side are interior trim and code. The chart places an X where exterior codes are "recommended" with interior codes, and an O that indicates "also available". What I want to know is if my car is equiped with a data tag that has a blank space in the intersection between exterior color and interior trim, does that mean the data tag was "made up" by someone in the past? Or was any color combination available in 1966? Thanks so much!

Need more info

Can you show me a pic of your Rating plate showing me the blank area?

What is showing for the DSO code ? 2 digit or 6 digit number ?

Numerous times a blank Exterior color code on the rating plate meant it could have left the plant in primer as it was special order and was going to be painted a corporate colour at its destination.

There should be a space on the data plate, the trim code X and O is to show what the standard combos were in 1966 X, the O would be a optional. Like lets say you had an Ivy Gold car the (X) or recommended color would be Ivy Gold Interior, but you could order it with the (O) option of black.
The X and O in the "How to restore your Mustang did not get stamped on the data plate itself.

Check out this pic below

From his OP he knows that, he says that on the Rating plate the Exterior Paint Code area is UNSTAMPED..meaning No color code for exterior pain.

See my post above for reason why.

From his post he says it "has a blank space in the intersection between exterior color and interior trim" I think he ment that he has a blank between the exterior and interior trim stamps.

Ok, apparently I wasn't very clear.
It is not my data plate code that has a blank. I was referring to a chart in the book How to Restore your Mustang that has exterior and interior color options.
My data plate reads: 6T08A131161
76A convertible-standard interior
T color-candy apple red
D8 interior trim-parchment with ivy gold trim
20K Date-October 20, 1965
23 DSO-Philadelphia
1 axle - 3:00 1
6 C4 Automatic Transmission

On the chart with the available colors and trims, the one that corresponds with Candy Apple Red does not have an X or an O in the box that corresponds with Parchment with Ivy Gold Interior. It is blank. Does that mean that this combination was not available?

The reason I am wondering is that I have the seats out and want to replace the carpet. I found out from this forum that the carpet with a D8 trim code is ivy gold, but don't want to purchase that color if the color combo didn't even exist.

Well, I went and looked with a magnifying glass and the 3s are shaped differently than the 8s. It appears to be an 8. If this is not a possible color combination, then I will just restore it to my taste. Is it possible that someone ordered it custom?

D8 is correct with Parchment with Ivy Gold according to my Ford ref book. D3 like MIL1ION said was on the list for options. There were only three colors for the Standard or Deluxe interior offered with the T code exterior Red, Black, and Parchment with red carpet (D3).

You could special order a number of things in the 1960's so it is possiable that someone was dying for Ivy Gold. There was a guy named Tony Popish that ran a website called "Horse of a Different Color" it was a registry about special order paint and interior mustangs. The site is down, and I could not track down any contact info.

if that car was special ordered the dso code would be 6 digits long

Wow, thanks guys. You really know your stuff! So, even though it was possible to special order, if someone had, it would have a 6 digit number for the DSO, which it was not. You are saying, then, that since the color combination did not exist in the chart, it is likely a replacement data plate and therefore invalid. Did I read that correctly?

a CUSTOMER ordered car from PA would have DSO of
ie: 231050

meaning the work build order number from that region was #1050

i'll check my ford book to see if that HTRAM is right

Thank you. So if my data plate only has a 23 after the DSO, it was not special ordered, correct? And if the Exterior Color of Candy Apple Red does not correspond to an Interior Trim code of Parchment with Ivy Gold appointments in the chart, then the data plate code cannot be original, correct? Just making sure we are on the same page. Thanks again.
