Default Global West Suspension Question

I have a 65 coupe with a 289 and T5 transmission. I am in the process of upgrading the brakes and suspension. I am considering the Global West tubular upper and lower control arms. Does anyone here have experience with these items? Do they improve the handling as claimed? How much better are they than stock? Any information and input would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input. I wonder if you need the roller perches if you get their control arms? Prices are definitely more friendly than Global West.

Get the roller perches even if you end up with a completely stock suspension - worth the price

Yeah the roller perches are a must have. They smooth out the ride and make it handle better.Global west makes nice stuff but open tracker parts look just like oem most can't tell. His control arms can be oem replacement to fully boxed with roller bearings. If you don't have a monte carlo bar and export brace they are well worth the money.

Both are on my list. I kinda like the idea of the redesigned angle for maximum negative camber. I am not sure how much of a difference this will make over their "street" control arms. Any experience?

On the 64-66 mustangs the Shelby drop is a must also if that is what you mean. His street lowers with spherical bearing will handle better and ride smoother. The upper the roller one is best the renforced one is the best one.

I was planning on the Shelby drop but I have never done it and need to get a template if possible. Regarding the street vs. track uppers, how much of a difference is there in handling between the two? Considering this car will be primarily street driven, will the track version be overkill? Will I notice an appreciable difference even on the street?

Try TCP. They have a new budget coil-over solution with adjustable height and dampers. I actually think that's the best value currently.

I've got mine at Precision Machines in CA. Kevin Sittner, the owner, has a lot of track experience with TCP products and can tell you exactly what you need for ur purpose and what you can get for how much money.

The phone no. is 209-369-2600. Ask for Kevin and tell him Dennis sends you. I guess when you take a nice bundle he'll make you a good price on that.

I was passenger in his Shelby when he was driving it on the track. The TCP stuff is really great!!!

The coil overs that go on the upper a arm are kinda useless. The best type are ones that go to the lower giving more travel and a smoother ride.Read the coil over part on here DazeCars, Suspension 101

As I said, it's a budget solution. It might not be such a good one as the one attaching to the lower control arm but it's for sure still an improvement to the stock configuration. Apart from that we talk about 800 bucks compared to 2600! You get what u pay for....

Hey GTJoe,

A little more info for ya to chew on:

I'm on a little bit of a budget. I wanted to make my 67 Cat the best possible handling and stopping (while still remaining daily drivable also). I did a lot of research and settled on a Global West "stage 2.5" package (see their website), with 4 wheel discs (Granada front, SN95 rear), and Randalls R & P (among other restomods).

I've been working on her since last summer .... engine compartment, suspension, rearend, brakes, and R&P are done, I'll be picking up the (bomb diggidity 306 roller) motor this week, so I don't expect to have any performance info for quite some time.

Global seems to have good products (IMHO), and they've been developing stuff to make an old steel boxes go like heck for quite some time. Not to single out Global, there are a few other companies who have as good of products and suspension knowledge. Shop around, research, and make the best choice based on your needs and budget.

My $0.02 - Coil overs are bling like 24's.

If you get a good suspension PACKAGE from Global, or anyone else, your handling will be light years better than any stock suspension, and you'll probably save a load of cash over coilovers (which is only part of the package).
Also, I've seen quite a few VERY FAST - COMPETITION Mustangs running pretty much "stock style" suspension. In all of the "full race" (road race) Mustangs I've looked at, I've never seen any with fancy bling-bling coilovers.

Has anyone done testing (on old Mustangs) to prove that coilovers will make your car "thousands of dollars" faster than a well setup "stock style" suspension ?

..... rant over ....

Party On !
