Hello, I have a 1966 mustang convertible that came with a reproduction data plate. The VIN on the plate is correct because it is stamped into the driver's side inner fender. The dash paint was (and still is) parchment. I am looking to restore the interior and am trying to decide on color scheme since I don't know what the original was. The exterior is bright red. Were the only seats available with a parchment dash actually parchment in color, or were there other interiors that painted the dash parchment? I have done a lot of research on interior trim schemes, but have not found what color they painted the dash with every given interior. Thank you for any info you can provide.

Not only parchment upholstered cars got parchment painted dashs. If the car got the blue or aqua Deluxe (Pony) interior, then their dash's were painted parchment to match the seat insert (the bolsters were blue and the inserts were parchment).

But I just was crawling under the car and saw that the front bumper is blue inside, then noticed some blue on the door, so it must've not been red. I'm thinking the aqua was the interior...Veronica saw the picture of the data plate and confirmed it is a reproduction. Am wondering if they changed exterior color U to T and interior D7 to D8.

Thanks for the info! I took out the carpet and am going to POR15 the floorpans. There was a layer of greenish paint over the primer red...have stripped them down. I think the greenish paint went all the way up to the dash, but not sure. I will look closer now, thank you so much!

Hello. I think that, in all likelihood, it's the exterior color that they changed on the door tag when they got the new one. Your car was probably either white, black or some kind of green originally, and actually had that interior. It's a very nice looking interior scheme on a car that's an appropriate color, it's just that red isn't one of those colors. .

Thanks, Veronica. Well I have been pretty sure the seats were parchment because they look original. I was just trying to figure out the "appointments" portion, and when I saw the blue...looks closest to Tahoe turquoise according to the book I have that shows colors...I thought it could've been parchment with aqua appointments. I will never know, but kinda fun to try to solve the mystery.

Hi again. I know someone that has a 66 convertible that has the parchment /aqua interior. I could take some pictures of it if you like. It's pony interior, but it would give you an idea of what that interior looks like on a car that is painted a color that goes with that interior.
