Default USA66 radio trouble

Guys,

I installed a USA66 from CAS last week (also see my thread: 65 alternative to full radio panel repair? ) and seem to have problems with the radio allready.
The first 20 minutes it worked fine. Had FM radio on and showed the little red LED in the bottom lefthand corner on the read out. Also had an MP3 player hooked up and switching to it (green LED) no problems.

However, The radio died after the first 20minutes of joy. I think it switched off for a second and the green back-light came back on (not sure as I was driving). After a couple of seconds the red LED came back on and the tuner started up again. This happened intermittenly a couple of times (few minutes each time). Next drive the radio worked for 10minutes and the LED and FM switched off, never to be seen again, green back-light in the radio still on.

All installation instructions were followed and common sense for a correct install.
I do have the bass up somewhat higher and only rear speakers installed (and front wires blanked off, fader on rear)

Any similar experience out there?
1. What is the root cause
2. What is the experience sending the unit back to CAS
3. Overall reliability of the radio

It is quite an expensive unit ($290) so I expect something good.

Please don't make me buy a foreign product in future (sony/kenwood), I want to support in-country business if reasonable. I have read mixed reviews through....

Call them. Nobody will have better experience than the manufacturer.

I would say check the wiring for tight connections, and also check your underdash harness to make sure everything is connected properly and where it should be. When I first got my USA-6 with CD Change & MP3 Input, I hooked it up the way it said to, and I had similar problems. About a month later I replaced my underdash harness, and all the problems went away. Maybe it's just that the old/original underdash wiring can't take the strain of a modern radio like that easily. It may look like an original AM/FM, but it has the internals from a brand new radio in it. Hope this helps.

Default In my opinion - get a refund

In my opinion, anything made by CAS is pretty much junk.
If you only had it that long, I would try to get a refund.

Here is another alternative - I bought one but have not gotten to install it -
