Start the car and get it to idle fairly slow then take off the valve cover. Loosen the rocker arm till it makes noise then slowly tighten it until the sound stops when the sound stops go 1/4 turn tighter. Not a bad job just dirty. get a piece of cardboard the length of the head and about 8"-12" wide and when you take off the valve cover stick it between the springs and the outside of the head and lean it out. most of the oil will hit it and run back into the head. A lot smaller mess to clean up, just make sure the cardboard is clean.

They have to be adjusted when everything is at Normal Operating temp anyway so ..you gotta get the temp up

Yea im aware to bring the motor to operating temp. But not hearing the valves since the cars to loud is a problem. I know theres a tool to use that presses the valves open but im not to sure how that process works. anyone try that method ?

Sorry the only way i know is to listen to them but if you can't hear the valves over the car that would be a problem.

My Boss 302 had solids in it and I was looking for an easy way to set the lash. Here is an old way that works on any engine and any number of cylinders. Simply set the intake lash just as the exhaust valve opens, and set the exhaust valve lash just as the intake valve is near closing. For hydraulic lifters, tighten down the rocker until there is no slack. Then go another 1 and a half turns past that. This is per the 1965 Ford shop manual. You may want to talk to your lifter manufacturer for other recommendations. With white headers this was SOOOO easy and clean. Best of luck

rodbenders method is correct except only 1/4 to 1/2 turn. 1-1/2 will be to tight.

That's why I suggested to check prior. It mainly depends on thread pitch on the studs. The original press-in studs have a coarser pitch while aftermarket and screw in studs have a finer pitch. You might try 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If they rattle then tighten them up a bit.
