Default Looking to buy a classic stang need help

First off does someone have a link to somewhere that'll show me year by year what models there are.

Im looking to spend about $4k on one thats running and fix it up the way I want. I dont think a 67 fastback can be had for that.
But was wondering if mach 1s could be?

Post up some pics of your stangs too to help me get some inspiration

for 4k not sure you can much , but you might get lucky , no chance for the fastback at that price --well maybe a rolling chassis
here is a cool link about the mustang years

thanks for the link. And Ive already found tons of 64-68 mustangs for under $5k in running condition and not too bad of a paint job. So there is hope.

Keep the info coming guys

You can get a drivable mustang for that price if you look long enough. It is possible that you could find a mach 1 but not likely that you will get any fastback for that money.

If you are not in a hurry and you have the time you would be suprised what pops up. A few years ago I recieved a call from a guy who had gotten my number from a friend of a friend. He said "Do you buy mustangs?" sure I said. I drove out to a warehouse in Orange County and I a met by an young man, he walks me through a garage full of Alfas, Fiat, Ferrars, Aston Martins, Lancias and just about every other euro toy from the 60's. In the back corner there were two Mustangs, one a low mile original Fastback and the other a near perfect 66 coupe. He tells me that his grandfather left him these old cars, and he is selling off the collection, some big collectors came in and purcahsed most the euro toys, but they missed these behind the pallet racks that they were sitting next to. Anyways, I ask how much expecting $10K each, he says "For an old Ford that does not run? I could not see taking more than $1,000 each for them."

Holding my jaw, I pulled the deposit cash I had with me, and called a tow truck.

Another day I ran accross a Boss 302 sitting in Pasadena, I could have sangged it for $2,500 bucks, but I felt bad becuase lady was in a bad way and her husband had died, so I helped her sell it for much more.

I purchased a Coach Built Moretti 124 one of 10 built in Turin Italy, as a basket case from a shop for $500.

I have owned a ton of cars, over 60 and my point is there is always another hidden deal out there. If you have a $4,000 budget for a play car, just hold off, scout around, take some road trips and see what is hidden in back yards, and old repairshops. You would be suprised what you find out there.

Yes, if you are very patient, you may luck into a "barn find". However, if you only look for the deal of the century, or even the decade, you may pass up some very good cars.

It is also possible to find a running Mustang in fair condition for $4,000, but probably not a fastback or Mach 1. If you don't know already, a Mach 1 is an upscale option/trim package on a sportsroof or fastback body style. Any fastback or MAch 1 in the $4,000 range will most likely need alot of work; as in it doesn't run, missing drive train, missing floors, trunk, etc. (rust that is).

My point is, that you can pass up all kinds of "great deals", and there will always be another one.

(Well ok if you find a GT500KR or you found Spectors Missing Dayton Coupe there wont be another one)

What years did they do the machs and boss's?

What year should I try and get for the best power and most value once restored?

Default IF I had it to do over again

Hi! dne' here
A year and half ago, I told my husband I wanted a project car, something that would last a couple years. I found this rolling chassis, I admit I didn't look very diligently, bought it without looking at others.
However, to do all over again, I would have shopped! Not necessarily to get one that's been restored already, cause that's what I was wanting to do, Restore, a project! Especially one with the least amount of rust(I hate floor pans!), but I know I can do a fair job now.

I see now, farily frequently, Early Mustangs popping up for sale, complete~ that's the KEY, complete, most everything is there even if they're worn out! Having my rolling chassis(less motor, trans, driveshaft, wrong rear end)undoubtedly requires much searching and spending a great deal of money.

However, from a learning standpoint, like Vintage mustang 101, I've learned a great deal and have no regrets about that. As one person told me to make me feel better, "you're keeping a classic from going to the grave!" giving it life again, another chance! However again, if one is on a budget restoration, you'd best shop til you drop! Cause it can not nickle and dime ya~ it can 300 to 500 dollar ya!

One more thing then I'll hush!~ When I bought my '67, I was unaware and AMAZED of all the Mustang stores around the country, and of course ebay, and let's give great credit to our local ACE hardware store! Jimney Kricket! I have two Mustang stores right here in Houston! but still Laurel mountain is still my favorite.
eh, that's it!
