Ok here's the deal, I've owned 5 liter Mustangs most of my life until three years ago, but had to get out of the game when my son was born, and went ahead and got an Expedition EB, ( it has now 176k miles but is loaded and runs like new), and now that he's a little older I can't wait to get back in the Mustang game, witch is my real passion, the thing is that I found a running 66 coupe with a 289 in very good conditions with a brand new black interior and factory A/C, and the guy is willing to make an even trade, I'm ready to dive into the deal, but I need a little help on what to look for and what to expect out of this particular model year, so I can be a bit more prepare for any surprises, any input would be appreciated.
thanks ahead of time.
Check the floor pans, torque boxes and the cowl for rust, these are probably the most common rust areas. Personally, I would jump all over the deal without thinkin twice!
If you trade him do you have another vehicle that you can drive as not to be driving the Mustang as your primary vehicle?
No I do not have another car just yet, although this will be my daily driver to work and so forth, but I will have to get my wife her own car though. ..Why not drive it?.. I don't want no garage queen.
I'll tell you why...until you've owned one of these relics you have no idea how bad they actually drive...thank goodness it has A/C but in the rain you will hate it, and in Miami...huh, good luck, they are hot, handle like box cars, have crappy brakes and are like driving on ice in the wet...I drove one for 20 years, it's amazing I'm still alive...if this was just a fun car for Ocean blvd I'd go for it, but you really might want to rethink this one

Then I would say go for it. I would just have it checked out by someone who knows Mustangs. Good luck and keep us posted. Hope it works for you.

Whats the actual value of the Expedition considering the mileage? If you dont know, do a search on Ebay for a like vehicle and see what the BuY It Now prices are. This would give you a guide as to what you could sell your vehicle for.
Then we could determin if its a fair deal. If you just want the Stang, do the deal.

Yeah! ... this is why I need you guys to help me decide, I don't want to do something that I'll regret later, I still haven't test driven the Stang, so until I do I can not honestly say how it drives, but I definitely see your point, and being forty something years old it probably does drive like crap, and this is my main concern since I have an eighteen month old baby boy, I'm thinking safety maybe an issue here, we'll see, and BTW I moved to Dallas TX about a year ago, just haven't updated my profile, ... Miami is too overcrowded.
Thanks.
Well that was why I was asking if you had another vehicle only so in case something happened to the classic then you would have a fall back vehicle. Being that old you never know.

Good Luck,
I've done the homework as far as prices go and they're about the same, not much difference, but then again you look on Ebay for example and this 66 Mustangs running but half the conditions of the one I'm looking to trade for, go for twice or three time that price, the value of my Expedition BTW is between five and six thousand depending on a few factors. but yeah that's the scoop!
Thanks for your replies.
I just traded out my 1987 fs bronco for a 1968 302 coupe and i'd do it again in a heart beat ( i have a 2yr old little boy) parts are pretty easy to find out there in texas, i wish you luck

Good Morning Mellow,
I would do the swap if you have equal value or if your desire to own the Vintage over your current vehicle adds to the value. You can always get another Expedition with less miles for a better price I'm sure due to supply and demand.
Deals only come along once in a while and deals on Expeditions come along everyday. I hope you are able to close the deal on the Mustang and please be sure to post more pics....
I would do the swap but also seriously think about getting your wife her car as soon as can be done. Just in case some things go wrong that you didn't expect with the mustang. These things have a way of adding up amazingly fast sometimes.
