Default 65 Mustang Transmission - Go with C4?

Have a problem with my transmission. It's not a C4, not sure exactly what it is, but it's giving me problems. I'm getting a substantial jerk when the auto trans shifts from 1st to 2d gear.

I have the original C4 and have been toying with swapping it out. That jerking is ruining an otherwise nice ride.

Any ideas on what might be causing the "jump" to 2d gear? Any input on what it might cost to tune up and install that C4 transmission? Most people I talk to have nothing good to say about the C4's--they say they're no good.

Thanks for the help.

300 to 600 it's hard to say. Do one thing when you advertise, be sure to include the build date so if someone is looking to go "original" they at least can determine if the engine matches. Remember Ford does not 'match' the motor to the car and serial like others did back then. so in reality...no such thing as a "numbers matching Ford" so to speak.

You need to find out what transmission you have. Look at the pan - its shape and size will help a lot.
Also when does it shift? If it is shifting at 30 mph then it should shift hard - but it should be shifting in the first twenty feet under light throttle.

Check the fluid level in the trans. If it doesn't have enough fluid it will make the shift very rough. Also, if the fluid level is too low, it will catch and then release the gear-basically the same as shifting to neutral from drive over and over.
