Default 65 Mustang Signals Problem

Well, I made a bad problem worse.

All lights are working except for my driver's side parking light/signal. So, wanting to be legal, I check it out, it looks corroded, so I bought a new parking light kit.

I go to hook up the new light and of course it has a brown, blue, and black wire--no matching wires on car. I hook it up and...nothing. No juice to speak of.

So genius decides to pull the working passenger side off to install the new light there. Definite juice...for a minute. Fiddled around and never could get that light to work. Then I look up and the driver's side rear signal isn't working...but that same light works for brakes and when lights are on. ????

So, at this point, headlights work, tail lights work, but only passenger rear signal is working. Checked fuses with NEW ohm meter...box looks good. Checked bulbs, that's not the issue. Got no juice in either front signal.

Any ideas for a chump with no electrical know how?

I've been tracking down electrical problems too with the lights. Some of my problems have been related to grounds. Make sure all individual grounds are grounded like they should be. Be sure to know that certain lights ground once they are in the particular part and attached to the car i.e. license plate light.

Thanks. Everybody I talk to says the same thing...check your grounds. I have a wiring schematic or two, but I'm not completely savvy about where the grounds are and where they connect. Everytime I look at the wiring it just gives me a headache. It's hard to get to much without pulling panels off and the wiring is wrapped up pretty good. Got to figure out this ground thing; I have a feeling that is the key.

Having the wiring diagrams is really key. I bought the book that is available with all wiring diagrams for my 64.5 and it has already been worth the 5 or however many dollars it cost me.

I started with the problem of brake lights not working and after tracing all that down, I've ended up finding other problems and being able to fix them.

But yes...it is a huge PITA!

Here's a link to some wiring diagrams in case you need them:

Thanks. Appreciate the link. I put in some new fuses and a new flasher relay, although the ones I replaced looked fine, and still no luck. Get this though: I found that some of the bulbs I was using seem to work fine in the rear lights, and some don't, even though they are all new and the same model. Can't figure it out, but by using the bulbs that worked, I now have working headlights, and break lights, but only the right, rear signal works. Just can't get any juice to flow through the front parking light/signal wires. I haven't messed with the grounds or other wires...just not working. I'm still fighting with it and trying to avoid paying to put it in the shop.

well seeing as I had a few problems with my brake lights, running lights, and dash lights just to name a few.

First off, make sure you are using dual filament bulbs in the rear tail lights. One filament for the running lights, and the other lights up for brakes and turn signals. If those have both filaments in tact, make sure all wiring is connected and not broken or dis-connected. Also make sure fuses are not blown.

Those are some of the basic small things to check. If they don't work from there...dig deeper and start going crazy. I have
