"all the original
steering and suspension components. I'm doing a rotisserie resto with my goal being near concourse correct/original"
this is confusing to me, not sure how to answer as it'll either be concours or not. Do you mean you only want to use your original 40yr. old steering/suspension parts? tie rods, idler, springs, spring perches, etc. and just change the bushings, dust boots, etc.? Or do you want to put new components on that will 'appear' stock meaning new MOOG tie rods, grab a track springs, KYB shocks, etc.?
I tried to stay stock appearing but better perf. / handling, what I've done is:
560 1" drop springs (they're silver but you could repaint them)
KYB GR2 shocks
Shelby/ Arning 1" drop
New tie rods, idler, etc.
PS- rebuilt control valve, cylinder painted stock cast gray
Rear- 4 1/2 leaf mideye springs with poly bushings, KYB GR2's
These made a big improvement on handling/steering w/o being harsh ride.
Next step is installing roller spring perches and 1" front sway bar.
These things aren't real obvious but if you are judged concours even poly bushings will be obvious to the judges, if you're going to stray from original do it right and get the best handling you can out of it.
I am making my car appear like a '67 TransAm series car so with the mideye leafs and 1" drop springs my fender lip sits level with the top of my tire tread (15" TT D's), exactly where I wanted it and level front to rear, car looks hunkered but not 'dropped'.
