Default $ 60k ? Fastback or convertible ( 1967 )

Hey guys I am torn apart here I like 1967 mustangs and I am contemplating restoring a 1967 fastback eleanor or a 1967 convertible eleanor.

I like them both pretty much the same my budget is 60 k its gonna be a full off the frame restorations and it will all be documented in this forum from start to finish.

Basically there arent too many convertible eleanors around why is that ? which car will be worth more in the short term and the long term. What would be the approximate price differance ?

Please help I go back and forth between the 2 everyday......I really need your input

Its hard to do a frame off on a unibody car.For that much money i would get a dynacorn fastback body its 15k but its all new and zero rust.Eleanor is a out dated fad to me i would go Ringbrothers » Store better pictures of the car Ringbrothers » Reactor maybe use a full frame http://www.gmachinechassis.com/

Exactly what I was thinking. Forget the Eleanor theme, old news. I would definitely make it unique though:

For that kind of price range, i would make a totally stock looking fastback and then have a patxon supercharged 428. Not a big fan of the eleanor or the "body kit" classic, and i feel like they dont hold the value anymore because they are getting more common than sand on a beach. I would think that if you want to have a good investment or something that would hold best value, i think that a totally stock fastback would do. But of course, its an opinion.

i would spend the $60000 (american) on a small fleet of driver quality mustangs. 4 - $10000 mustangs and $20000 on a heated garage to store them in for your 10 1/2 month long winters.

I have always liked the fastbacks best. I like the eleanor cars but there are a few around. If you like the eleanor look i say go for it. Having something original is nice but only if it is what you want. Make sure you get what you really want, especially if your spending 60 grand.

Are you planning on doing most of the work yourself or having someone else do the restoration/build? That is a huge differentiator with respect to budget. You don't need to spend nearly that much if you do most of the work yourself. You can also just buy one for that amount unless you're looking for the fun of a project to work on.

I'm currently doing a full rotisserie resto on a 67 fastback. I love the Eleanor and initially was planning to do one. Once I got the car though and found all the old stuff in the trunk and just looked at the car felt like I had to bring it back close to stock. Stock/period correct cars will also always hold their value and continue to appreciate so you can't go wrong. Also I have a 65 Shelby Cobra replica that I built and if I have to hear someone ask me if it's real one more time I think I'll die. Decided for this car I wanted it to be 100% the real deal. That's something to think about too when building an eleanor or clone type of car. In the end do whatever you really want though b/c that is what you'll be happy with. If you're planning to do the resto yourself just be sure you're heart is 100% in it and that you're up to the task in terms of tools and skills. Let us know what you decide on. Good luck.

I've never been a big fan of the Eleanor Mustangs. As stated earlier, it is a matter of personal taste. I agree with the suggestion of you getting a new Dynacorn fastback body and go from there. The first question you must ask yourself is which body style do YOU prefer.

If the only reason for building the car is to make money.you'll never get what you put into it...................just build the car you like.

Sounds like you've decided on a convertible. Make a California Special clone/tribute/replica, you don't see many of those.

I would like a mix of 67 and 68 Shelby parts.Or just put the trunk and tail lights on it.But its your car do whatever makes you happy but 60k to pay someone to build it don't set your hopes too high labor is pricey.
