Hello everyone, let me first introduce myself. My name is Michael Ferrari and I am looking to restore a mustang for my father. Most of my auto expertise come in the form of building Jeeps but I am confident that I should be able to restore a Mustang as well.
{Below} are some pictures of a few of my Jeeps.
Any how, my father's first car was a 67 Convertible Mustang he bought new and sold it once him and my mother were married. They have put me through college and even helped in the purchase of my first home so I would like to help re-pay this debt in a special way. I have decided over the next year I want to find a Mustang and restore it for him. He recently was able to get a company car through work and got one of the those new Mustang convertibles so I know he would it to have "his" old car back.
This is where I need your help, about all I know about his previous Mustang is that it was a baby blue color, a manual, and possibly a v8 (leave to my mother to provide such a great description). I also know diddly right now about classic Mustangs. I found a 68 convertible out here by my house and two 67 coupes (only good for parts). What are some major differences between the years 67 and 68? I have been reading through the site, but if anyone knows any good sites that have good general Mustang Resto information could you post them up as well.
Thanks!

The differences are subtle. The grills on the rear quarter panel, the spears on the horse and corral in the grill, steering wheel, the stitching style on the seats and a few minor things. One thing for safety sake is the collapsible steering column on the 68. Prior cars had the harpoon solid shaft. My recommendation is the book " How to Restore Your Classic Mustang" and the corresponding year shop manual. This'll get you started. Going through mine again, 20 years later.

Welcome aboard. There are numerous sources of info on the restoration. Rodbender's suggestion of the restoration manual is dead on. It's full of valuable info, as well as the manual on assembly which details how the cars are put together and how to disassemble them. (you can find that on ebay) Gives some tricks as to where and how some of the parts are attached. Order all the catalogs you can and pour through them. You 'll begin to see the differences in all the models. I probably learned more this way than any. Find some shows and clubs around your area to attend. Mustang people are the best about helping out with restos and the members on here are awesome. And of course the internet is your best friend. I've been resto-ing a 67 myself under similar circumstances with my Dad. He's 70 and he had a 65 when they brought me home from the hosp some 42 years ago. Good luck!
geeze michael, its guys like you that make all the rest of look bad! not really, that is a great thing to do for your dad. the good thing about mustangs is the amount of info out there. books, internet, clubs, and friends. have fun and build him a really nice ride!
Welcome Thats a really cool doing that for your dad, and im sure he would love it. Pretty much anything about mustangs can be found on the internet and on these forums so if any questions arise, this is the place to go. Best of luck with the car.
