Default 1968 mustang z-bar

I have a 1968 mustang gt coupe and have run into a small problem! I have a 433 stroker based on a 1969 351w block. I am running a toploader and a mcloed 2800 pressure plate and clutch set up also a aluminum flywheel. I purchased a new z-bar and it seems to be flexing or bending both, and I can not keep it adjusted correctly.Pedal gets closer to the floor over short period of time.Is there anyone that makes a heavy duty z-bar for this application or should I just modify what I have? Thanks Jerry

Ive always stffened my stock ones. Welded a piece of 1/4 flat bar on the rigid to the back of the arm. I might be able to get a pic if you need. For a while I was bending the lower rod. So I made new upper and lower rods using bearing rod ends etc.

What did you use for rods that the ends went on for the upper and lower? Thanks Jerry

For the lower I used a long grade 8 bolt with the head cut off and rounded then sleeved.

For the lower I used an all thread rod, sleeved.

I can get pics but not sure how clear they will be.

It has been that was for 15 years and 2 diff cars with no probs.

sounds like a plan! Did you gussit the z-bar anywhere or just add the 1/4 flat bar? I can mig the flat bar no prob and as far as the sleeve goes just good thick wall will work. I wander why noone ever made good aftermarket fix for this? Has always been weak spot from day one if using heavier pressure plate? You have been a great help thanks for everything, hope I can return favor some day! Jerry

I didnt gusset just ran the 1/4 flat bar, bent in the same shape as the flat part of the z bar to the back side.

Yes thick wall and male rod ends work. I used rod and females because thats what I had.

Had to reinforce my zbar, same problem, used a triangle 1/4" plate piece between short arm and round tube. 25 years ago
