Default Just purchased 70 vert - need guidance

Just recently purchased a 70 convertible with a 302. Engine has been rebuilt with he-per heads and carb. I bought the car sight unseen from out of state. i did have a mechanic inspect and it was give a favorable report.

But of course buying a car without seeing always comes with some surprises!! Let me say i am happy with soem of them. But were 2 surprises that I need advise on.

1) the car is extremely loud - owner claimed he had custom exhaust built for the car - failed to tell me he has dual cherry bombs - need to get corrected quickly - too loud for neighbors - need suggestion on exhaust replacement.

2) had a lot of extra weight in trunk - original heads, manifold, etc. I heard a pop when driving home from pick up - 1/2 mile - it now seems the passnger side sits about 1 inch lower - any ideas what has cuased this and how to get fixed.

Thanks in advance for your help

Welcome to the siteCongrats on the purchase. Some Magnaflows would tone it down and sound good without making restriction.

Go with the flowmasters. As for the pop noise, if it has the rear air shocks like my 66' it probably blew out. just replace both rear shocks and it should restore ride height. Don't just do one side, if one blew out the other one will too.

I would go with the idea of replacing the rear shocks. As for the exhaust, change out the cherry bombs for something like flowmaster, or just straight pipes. Straight pipes would be quiter than cherry bombs, give your car a more natural tone, and it wouldn't be as restrictive as mufflers.

I had the same thing happen to my 70 Mach. It was a New England ar all of it slife, and the POP i heard was the leaf spring snappin right at the rear axle. Tak a trouble light and go uner the car and take a good look. If the shick absorber blew, then bouncing the car by hand may show the problem easily. Congrats on buying a great car. Anyone can buy a new Mustang, it takes someone special to buy a classic and take care of it.

Check where the shock mounts to the rear floor, it may have popped through.
