Default 1969 mustang 351 windsor to 351 cleveland

I have a 1969 mustang coupe with the original 351 windsor/fmx transmission. I am going to pull the motor and completely rebuild it. I found a 1974 351 cleveland for sale. I would like to run this motor while i rebuild the original. will the cleveland bolt up to the fmx? motor mounts? will my hedman headers fit between the shock towers? any help appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the siteThe Cleveland will not bolt up to the trans. It is alot bigger engine and will fit real tight in there. If you just want something to keep it rolling,i suggest a 302,it will fit with no problems.

the cleveland WILL bolt up to the trans, but mounts and headers are different. the 302 will also fit, but still some issues. brackets, pulleys, linkage, ect.....

no, the cleveland has the same bolt pattern as the small block! the 351M/400 has the 429/460 pattern.

Everything bolts right up.. Tranny, and motor mounts. I did this exact thing with my '70 Coupe. I also have hedman longtube headers, as long as they're application specific (for the mustang/auto, and 351C obviously) , they'll fit.

Yeah you will need new headers but pretty much everything else should bolt in.It will fit fine 70 they started using the 351c and 69/70 is the same car besides tiny things.
