between an 8 inch rear end and a 9 inch rear end both limited slips?i have a 65 gt A code with an 8 inch posi why didnt it come with a 9?

the biggest difference is the number of axle splines 9 inch are stonger than an 8 they have less chance of axle failure

the 9" is alot stronger than the 8". mostly big block and 4 speed cars got the 9". and very few in 65. and by the way, unless its a 31 spline 9" it has the same 28 spline axles as an 8" !

If its a got a 8 inch its not a true gt or someone swapped rear ends on it.There is a lot of fake gt mustangs out there.

I don't think that is accurate. Most of the early Mustangs were 8" as is my original '66 GT. As far as I know, being a GT had nothing to do with the rear end. They all had small block engines and the 9" was usually found on a big block cars or a truck.

The 9" were only used on the K codes with the early cars, GT or not. The K was the highest horsepower motor during that time. The 8" is still a decent axle and it looks like Ford kept that in all other V8 Mustangs to save production costs.

The 8" is a very strong rearend. It will handle up to 400 HP without any problems. They still have parts for them and Currie has a ton of rebuild kits.

A lot of the guys with the old hot rods like to use the 8". Its strong dependable and weighs less than the 9" and again can handle some horsepower.
