Default question bout temp gauge...

have a 65 gt fastback just had it all rewired so everything works fine. i have a question bout the temp gauge. even with a new water pump(its a good one and works fine) and new thermostat the gauge still stays close to the hot side.its not running hot but its not running cool either withe the temp gauge in the middle .the gauge is not giving me an accurate reading or is there something else i can check on?

I had the same problem and I thought I had posted what I found - however, I can't find it with my own search.

The senders you get these days seem to read hotter than they should. I had your problem, the gauge said it was nearly boiling when it was running at 180F just as it should have been. Ford expected the gauge to read close to the center of its range which would mean the sender should be around 25 Ohms.

I got a second temp sender and the readings were closer to center and I learned to live with it. When I have more time I will post more details that I discovered with various temp senders.

run it to normal operating temp with the rad cap off and insert a candy thermometer into the coolant to get an exact reading.
