Question 1970 6 cyl fastback restoration

I've got my dad's old mustang that is in need of complete restoration. I was told by a co-worker, whose whole family has been Ford fanatics since forever, that my 6 cylinder fastback is fairly rare and would likely go up in value. It is in need of a complete make-over and I would appreciate anyone letting me know the value unrestored and restored, estimations of course. I cannot find a full floor pan section that includes the full trunk, do they make these after market or do I need to buy seperately? Where can I find the best price on reproduction parts that are, preferably, made in the good ol USA? Any and all responses would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm enjoying the site so far although navigating it seems a challenge since I'm new here. I'll get used to it though i'm sure. I'm looking forward to reading all the posts and hopefully learning a lot about my treasure as well as those owned by other members.

Welcome to the site! They do make both panels, and you can either get it as one whole assembly, or as 2 seperate panels. The one piece assembly for a coupe/fastback is part #FTP65 from Mustangs Unlimited. I found it in their catalog, and you can see a picture of it at their website. It comes with full rear frame rails & torque boxes installed, and it has part of the front ones in place, and the front seat risers installed.

As for the rarity, the 200CID has become in the 66 Mustangs, rarer than the Hi-Po 289 due to the fact that just about everyone takes out the 6 cylinder to drop in an 8 cylinder. That coupled with the fact that it is a fastback, makes it unbelievably one of a kind, and extremely rare.

A 6 cyl Fastback (Sportsroof) is even more rare in the later Mustangs, less produced than the earlier ones as the performance wars were really on at that time between GM, Chrysler and AMC. Not many people who wanted the sportier looking Sportsroof would order one of the 6 cyl engines.

They are sorta rare and unique but being a 6 doesn't increase it's value though, as most people do want an 8. The very few I have seen at shows/cruises DO get attention as they aren't something you normally see.

Which engine do you have, the 200 (T code) or the 250 (L code)? The 250 is a "big" 6 cyl and came with the small block V8 suspension and 5 lugs from the factory.

Both sixes are good motors. There are many upgrades for them too these days. The biggest drawback they have is they can't breathe with the 1v carb and the exhaust manifold. There are different carb and exhaust setups for them out there that will wake them up.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Well, he says it is a 1970, so it's probably a 250CID. IIRC, 69 was the last year for my 200. I am trying to find the cylinder head from a 250 for my 200.

Hi and . Don't know how rare you I6 is but just being a I6 its an endangered species. There are many things that can be done to improve the performance of it (I6). Check out fordsix.com and classicinline.com, lots of info and parts for the 6 there .
