Default Voltage Regulator Smoking

Have a 68 coupe. My voltage regulator wasn't working so I purchased another one, 55 amp just like the alternator. After a minute it will smoke. I replaced it as well. Per the diagram on the all ford mustangs forum, I have everything hooked up correctly from the starter solenoid, to the alternator. Any ideas? Wrong regulator? I know it is a hard question to ask without seeing the car, but wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. Thank you.

Hello. The borg/warner part number for the correct regulator is R295. Since you will be needing to get a new one anyway, since that one started smoking, I would get the borg/warner. I've never had any trouble out them. Hope that helps.

I would ohm out each wire first and check for any dead shorts. It is unusual for two regulators going bad. Use your wire diagram for determining what ohms you might expect to see.
