That VIN just tells you that the car was a 3 door hatch that came with a 302 2v made in 1979. I think you might have some numbers wrong there, though, so re-check.
Here are some things that the car SHOULD have that you can look for:
1. They made 10,478 replicas in 1979, so its not that rare a car. They were all 3 door hatchbacks, which is to say, the most common body style sold every year.
2. They were all Pewter and black paint with orange and red stripes.
3. The pace car replicas got a non-functional cowl induction hood.
4. The front bumper cover came with three horizontal grill bars and a front air dam.
5. They came with Marchal fog lamps.
6. Mechanically, they all came with the TRX handling package with unique metric wheels and Michelin tires (these are rare to find intact).
7. Interior had really nice, black Recaro front seats with black and white checkered inserts.
8. There was a special Indy dash plaque too.
9. The stickers are NOT a final determiner of anything, since the customer had the option to buy the car with the stickers on or stored in a box in the trunk (which many chose). Also, the stickers were widely available (and still are), so replicas of the replicas were common, though the unusual hoods and grills were much less common among the fakes.
